Eyebrow Lift To see what a brow lift may offer, stand in front of a mirror. Place your hands on the outer edges of the eyes above the brows. Gently pull the skin up to raise the eyebrows and forehead. This is a rough approximation of what a brow lift has to offer. The brow lift, sometimes in combination with eyelid correction, can be one of the most dramatic procedures one can undergo to improve the appearance of an aging face. Most people are not aware of how the forehead and brow area can affect the overall appearance of the face. Facial beauty is the result of a harmonious relationship between the different elements. With age, facial features sag in relationship to the underlying bone and cartilage framework. Frown lines deepen with stress and over activity of the muscles of facial animation. Trauma and nerve injury can also cause facial features to droop. A brow lift (forehead lift) helps reverse the trend of gravity replacing the facial features of the upper third of the face into their more youthful positions. The face regains a fresher less tired look. This operation can be done alone or in conjunction with other operations. Drooping brows can leave excessive skin for the upper eyelids to move out of the way to see. The extra skin can be as little as a slight fold, or so extensive to rest against the eyelashes. With the extra work, the lids can sometimes compensate only so well. Later in the day fatigue and excessive exertion make it harder and harder to keep the eyelids open. Doctors report seeing some patients with their upper eyelid skin taped to their forehead just to see! Laughing, smiling, crying and squinting are all everyday facial movements that gradually cause your forehead to develop unwanted furrows, wrinkles and lines. This, coupled with the inevitable effects of aging can create forehead lines that lead to a tired, sad, worn or angry look. The tissue of the forehead and brow can sometimes sag down over the upper eyelid to such an extent that the eyelashes and eyebrows meet. Wrinkles or "corrugations" in the forehead and the frown lines between the eyes become fixed. Brow lift is a plastic surgery procedure that will raise your eyebrows to a higher and more aesthetic position. It will also improve lateral hoods (which are the droopy flaps of skin that hang over the outside corner of your eyes. Plastic surgery of your forehead will also soften your horizontal forehead wrinkles and the scowl lines between your eyebrows. A brow lift alters or removes the tissues that cause furrowing and drooping of the forehead, raises the eyebrows, and reduces frown lines. However, you should not expect a brow lift to improve your baggy eyelids or crow's feet. Collagen implants or muscle relaxants are alternatives to brow lift surgery for deep furrows on the forehead. Droopy eyebrows, however, require some form of surgery. Laser resurfacing of the forehead may tighten the skin above the brow enough to give droopy eyebrows a bit of a lift. If the eyebrows are really heavy then a brow lift is the only option available. Other names for a brow lift are: eyebrow lift, forehead lift, coronal lift, endoscopic brow lift, direct brow lift, temporal lift, midforehead lift, internal brow lift, browplasty, browpexy and upper face lift.
